New Beginnings

Logo & Branding

New Beginnings in Lewiston, Maine, has been helping build brighter futures since 1980. The organization serves youth who are in crisis through several programs including an emergency shelter, transitional living program, outreach/drop-in center, educational support, and mental health and prevention services.

For our first project together, New Beginnings leadership wanted to refresh their logo and develop branding that better reflected the people they serve.

The client wanted a fresh, clean update for the logo, with a focus on the organization name. It was also important to keep the sun/wheat element that had been part of their logo for many years.

The new logo uses a heavy, sans serif typeface with rounded stylization. The sun/wheat element was simplified and its proportions were modified to maintain its prominence at a reduced size within the logo block.

A Style Guide was created detailing the use of the two logo variations (stacked and inline), as well as the new fonts and colors.

The branding update includes the use of a brightly-colored, abstract art piece layered over a brick wall texture. The art piece inspired the brand color palette, though the main colors are the original logo’s yellow, along with bright green and navy. Handwritten and eroded typefaces are used along with grunge-style elements to draw attention to headlines and other pertinent information.
